What Are Orthotics?

Orthotics are insoles worn inside your shoes that are shaped to support and realign the foot and ankle. Unlike generic insoles available over the counter, prescription orthotics are tailored to your individual foot structure, gait pattern, and clinical needs.

They work by redistributing pressure, correcting alignment, and reducing strain on the muscles, tendons, and joints of the foot and lower limb — addressing the underlying cause of pain rather than simply masking symptoms.

What Conditions Can Orthotics Help?

Orthotics are commonly prescribed for a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
  • Flat feet (overpronation) and high arches
  • Knee, hip, and lower back pain linked to foot mechanics
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Shin splints and stress fractures
  • Metatarsalgia (ball of foot pain)
  • Bunions and toe deformities
  • Diabetic foot care and pressure offloading

Orthotics are often used alongside other treatments such as physiotherapy, footwear advice, and strengthening exercises for the best outcomes.

The Fitting Process

Getting your orthotics starts with a comprehensive assessment. Angelica will evaluate your foot posture, biomechanics, and footwear before taking precise measurements or a 3D scan of your feet.

Your orthotics are then custom-manufactured to your prescription. A follow-up fitting appointment ensures the devices feel correct and any adjustments are made. Most patients notice an improvement within the first few weeks of consistent wear.

"The right support changes everything — not just for your feet, but for the way your whole body moves."
